Plena Healthcare and Fora Therapy
Striving to sharpen the employability skills within diverse roles at the Education sector, I believed that I was now ready to take further steps to dive into the sector of my own study - Occupational Therapy, and make use of my discipline-specific knowledge and experiences to make community-oriented contributions.
That was the core reason why I decided to become an Allied Health Assistant in regional Victoria. Starting from my role as a self-employed Allied Health Assistant in Community-based Paediatrics to support children with Autism, I have continued dedicating my time to provide paediatric therapy in Geelong, Weribee and Manor Lakes as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Fora Therapy to help children with intellectual disability, developmental delay and other psychiatric conditions. With my leadership competence, I led the therapy sessions for children with special needs and their families in regional Victoria, directing family-centred practice to ensure that the family gets involved in maintaining the consistency of the therapeutic activities. Compassion is also an integral element of my leadership as I am always willing to explain and address emerging concerns for each family, with genuine patience and understanding.

Understanding that there is a workforce shortage in Aged Care, I also put my efforts into assisting the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services in Residential Aged Care at Plena Healthcare, where I am responsible for assisting multiple therapeutic programs in various Geelong-based residential facilities. Everyday as an AHA is different - I learn to be creative in my therapeutic approach, empathetic in communicating with patients and their families, and strong-minded when addressing residents’ emerging health concerns. I came to realise that I did not need to get involved with a leadership role to demonstrate leadership skills - leadership is all about caring, inspiring and bringing everyone together to achieve meaningful goals.
