STEM Sisters
Passionate about Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics (STEM) fields and willing to share the passion to women and young girls who often encounter gender barriers when striving to contribute to STEM sectors, I decided to apply and become a STEM Ambassador in 2021 to contribute in the enhancement of gender equality in STEM education and career.
In 2022, on behalf of STEM Sisters and in partnership with Deakin University, University of Melbourne and Swinburne University, I led the team of 5 STEM Ambassadors organising the Women in RE/IT workshop where we were able to invite 4 influential public figures in STEM sectors to speak as panellists about their meaningful contribution to the advancement of STEM and their dogged determination to promote gender equity in STEM. The workshop was a remarkable success as we received a diversity of positive comments from many of our participants on how the workshop inspired them to continue devoting their efforts in the growth of STEM. One message consistently resonated throughout the discussion: STEM education and career should be accessible to every STEM enthusiast. In hindsight, I was amazed by how a relatively small team of 5 individuals under my leadership could orchestrate such an insightful workshop where esteemed specialists were gathered.

In addition, to extend our influence to young female generations, I also engaged in the workshop series of science experiments where my team and I were able to inspire school-aged girls to consider STEM for education and career, fostering gender equity in STEM fields. By demonstrating to them the scientific methods of these experiments and explaining the logical justifications behind these phenomena, we were able to spread the message to our young participants: there is no barrier that can prevent them from achieving their full potential once they have the willingness and resilience to learn. Nourishing my leadership by setting a meaningful community-driven vision and sharpening my capacity to achieve the vision, I believe that I have been gradually bringing STEM a step closer to everyone irrespective of their educational backgrounds.
